Flying nuns and Cio-Cio San

Discovered this amazing berry bush while walking the Caddo Trail at Oak Point Park Sunday.  Did you ever see such wimples on berries?  Every berry could be a flying nun...a teeny tiny Sally Field.

Yes, Virginia, there was a t.v. show starring Sally Field as a nun who could fly, and it ran for eighty episodes.  Yes, we still had a black and white t.v. back then, and no, my parents didn't let us watch such drivel.  My eighty-seven year old father still wants to smack Sally upside the head every time a Boniva commercial comes on t.v.

Other views of the berries seemed like settings for "Madama Butterfly" (Dallas Opera 2005 more than 2010).  Such a subject deserves a giant scroll and lovely strokes painted with a bamboo brush.

Or pop the original 1940 "Fantasia" in the old VHS player and fast forward to the "Waltz of the Flowers". Try to stay awake on the sofa under the heavy knit afghan.  Try.  Try.  Fight those visions of twirling flowers, Chinese mushrooms, and frost-skating fairies dancing in your head.

I loved The Flying Nun! (It was ridiculous, but if you were the right age...just between the ability to believe she might actually fly on that wind, and not...it was perfect!)

And I might just pop in Fantasia!
