BBC lizard

Leaving work about 3:30 Friday I swear I heard the BBC woman on the radio pronounce "iguana" as ig-GU-wan-nuh.  I nearly ran off the road.  What if I've just been assuming the proper pronunciation is ih-GWAH-nuh all these years?

I have pronunciation insecurities.  As teens we used to make fun of our mother for putting the accent on the wrong syl-LAB-ble when she said "TROM-bone".  Pronunciation karma comes back around.  I can't speak of the sliding brass instrument in public to this day because neither TROM-bone or trom-BONE will ever sound correct.

Although I searched the NPR website and listened to the BBC's The World podcast, I couldn't find that lizardian moment.  Below are some links to correct pronunciation of iguana:

Ig GU wan nuh ride along to Kroger, I'll be leaving in a minute or two.
